CAVS Technical Arrangement Signed, Replacing TPz Fuchs and M113
Agreement to Enhance Defense Capabilities
On April 17, 2023, the technical arrangement for the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) was officially signed. This agreement between Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany marks a significant step towards replacing aging vehicles in their respective armed forces.
The CAVS program, originally established by Finland and Latvia, aims to develop a common six-wheeled armored vehicle that meets the specific requirements of participating nations. The Patria 6x6, manufactured by the Finnish defense company Patria, will form the basis of the CAVS platform.
Versatile and Combat-Proven Vehicle
The Patria 6x6 is a versatile vehicle designed primarily for troop transport roles. However, its modular design allows configuration for various combat support roles, including command and control and medical evacuation. The vehicle's combat-proven capabilities have been demonstrated in operations around the globe, including Afghanistan and Iraq.
By replacing the TPz Fuchs and M113, the CAVS will significantly enhance the maneuverability, protection, and survivability of participating forces. The common platform will also facilitate interoperability and reduce maintenance and logistics costs.
