Brazilian Waxing

Everything You Need to Know About the Brazilian Wax

What is a Brazilian Wax?

A Brazilian wax is a hair removal treatment that uses hot wax to remove all but a tiny strip or triangle of pubic hair. The treatment removes hair from the front of the pubic bone around the external genitals, between the upper thighs, and down to the anus.

What to Expect from a Brazilian Wax

A Brazilian wax can be painful, but the level of pain varies from person to person. The pain is typically worse during the first few treatments, as the hair is thicker and more deeply rooted. Over time, the pain will usually decrease as the hair becomes thinner and grows back more slowly.

During a Brazilian wax, you can expect your esthetician to:

  • Clean the area to be waxed.
  • Apply a thin layer of hot wax to the area.
  • Place a strip of cloth or paper over the wax.
  • Rub the strip in the direction of hair growth.
  • Quickly remove the strip, pulling it against the direction of hair growth.

How to Prep for a Brazilian Wax

To prepare for a Brazilian wax, you should:

  • Exfoliate the area to be waxed.
  • Trim the hair to be waxed to about 1/4 inch long.
  • Avoid using any lotions or oils on the area to be waxed.

Aftercare for a Brazilian Wax

After a Brazilian wax, you should:

  • Avoid touching or scratching the area.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Avoid swimming or bathing in hot water.
  • Use a cold compress to reduce swelling.
