Ronaldo shines as Brazil ease into second round
Brazil booked their place in the second round of the World Cup with a comprehensive 5-2 victory over Costa Rica in Suwon on Thursday.
Ronaldo, who had been struggling with a thigh injury, opened the scoring for Brazil in the 10th minute with a cool finish after being set up by Edilson.
Ronaldo then turned provider for Rivaldo, who made it 2-0 in the 39th minute. Ronaldinho made it 3-0 just before half-time with a stunning free-kick.
Costa Rica pulled a goal back through Paulo Wanchope in the 56th minute, but Ronaldo restored Brazil's three-goal lead just two minutes later.
Wanchope scored again for Costa Rica in the 79th minute, but Juninho Pernambucano made sure of the victory for Brazil with a goal in the 89th minute.
The victory means that Brazil finish top of Group C with nine points, while Costa Rica finish bottom with one point.
