Blessed Carlo Acutis' Tomb Reopens After Two Years

Public Veneration Resumes in Assisi

Visitors Can Now Pray at the Closed Tomb

The tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first millennial to beatified in the Catholic Church, reopened for public veneration on Thursday, July 15, 2021. Visitors can now once again see the young saint dressed in jeans and tennis shoes, as he was when he died of leukemia in 2006.

The tomb had been closed since October 19, 2020, for renovations. During that time, visitors were still able to pray at the closed tomb.

The reopening of the tomb is a major event for the Diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino, where Acutis lived and died. It is also a sign of the growing devotion to the young saint, who has been credited with several miracles.

In June 2020, Pope Francis formally recognized a miracle attributed to the intercession of Acutis. The miracle involved the healing of a Brazilian boy who was suffering from a rare pancreatic disease.

Acutis was beatified in October 2020, and his canonization is currently under consideration.
